Ask 10 animal breeders a question, and you will get 11 answers. The alpaca indusrty is no different. There are many "hot botton" issues on our plate at this time (2007). Do we need a breed standard? Is it ok to cross suris and huacayas? What do you do with animals that have given birth to a cria with a birth defect such as choanal atresia? The stud I am looking at is linebred - should I bred to him? Should I buy him?
These are totally my opinions on the above subjects, and more, or the writings of people I agree with. As the knowlegde base on alpaca genetics, health care, and diseases grow, no doubt we will be vindicated in our beliefs, or change or modify our opinions.
